Gas Engines: High Efficiency, Low Carbon Emissions

Gas engines are mostly used for generating energy in stationary combined heat and power (CHP) plants. They run on gaseous fuels. The advantage of gas engines in cogeneration plants is that they are more efficient than gas turbines and can be used even in lower output ranges. Natural gas or biogas-fired gas engines boast high efficiency levels of 40 to 45 percent and low carbon emissions. By additionally using the heat energy (cooling water, exhaust gas), total efficiency levels of up to 90 percent of the primary energy employed can be reached.

Diesel Engines: High Efficiency Through Low Fuel Consumption

Unlike gas engines that depend on external ignition, the fuel-air mixture in diesel engines is compressed so much that it ignites by itself. Diesel engines are also used in ships, in vehicles, and for generating energy. Most commonly, they are used in vehicles such as cars, trucks, locomotives, and construction machinery. Due to the stable control properties, diesel engines are also suitable for use in emergency gensets. They can be more efficient (better than 50 percent) than gas engines, but are inferior in terms of carbon emissions. The low specific fuel consumption makes diesel engines very economical.

DEUTZ engines are used in areas such as agricultural machines, construction machines, forklifts, lifting platforms, stationary plants, ships, airport equipment, rail vehicles, and other utility vehicles.

MWM gas engines power gensets can be operated with various gas types and are suitable for a wide range of applications, e.g. for the cogeneration of heat and power. MWM gas engines and power gensets in the output range from 400 kW_el to 4,500 kW_el are deployed for decentralized energy generation in public utilities, commercial and industrial plants, greenhouses, biogas plants, landfills, sewage treatment plants, and mines.
